Woodhall Spa Guide
Woodhall Spa offers a fantastic selection of cottages with hot tubs, perfect for those seeking a relaxing Lincolnshire break. This former Victorian spa town retains much of its Edwardian elegance while providing modern comforts.
The area is home to the famous Kinema in the Woods (TripAdvisor's #1 attraction), the Cottage Museum and Jubilee Park with its outdoor swimming pool. Golf enthusiasts will appreciate the National Golf Centre with two championship courses.
Did you know? Woodhall Spa was a favourite retreat of the famous 617 'Dambusters' Squadron during WWII, with the Squadron Bar at the Petwood Hotel serving as their officers' mess.
Accommodation ranges from cosy couples' retreats to large family cottages with private hot tubs. Many properties offer enclosed gardens, making them ideal for those bringing dogs to explore the nearby Lincolnshire Wolds.

Sightseeing
Woodhall Spa packs a surprising amount of attractions into a small village. The Kinema in the Woods (LN10 6QD) is a must-visit - it's one of the UK's few remaining back-projection cinemas still operating. Open daily with screenings from 2pm, it scores 5/5 on TripAdvisor.
The Cottage Museum (LN10 6SB) tells the story of Woodhall's development from a Victorian spa town. Open April-October, Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30am-4pm. TripAdvisor gives it 4.5/5 based on visitor reviews.
Jubilee Park (LN10 6QN) offers beautiful gardens, tennis courts, croquet and a heated outdoor swimming pool. The pool is open May to September and gets 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor.
I recommend visiting the Petwood Hotel gardens (LN10 6QG) even if you're not staying there. They're free to explore and were designed by Harold Peto. The hotel itself was home to the famous Dambusters Squadron in WWII.
Pet Friendly
Many cottages with hot tubs in Woodhall Spa welcome dogs, making it an excellent choice for pet owners. The surrounding Lincolnshire countryside offers miles of walking routes where your dog can burn off energy.
The Inn at Woodhall Spa (LN10 6PY) allows dogs in their bar area, so you can enjoy a meal without leaving your four-legged friend behind. They even provide water bowls!
Woodhall Country Park (LN10 6UJ) has designated dog walking areas and waste bins throughout. It's perfect for morning and evening walks before returning to your hot tub cottage.
If you're bringing a dog, we suggest packing a towel specifically for them - the local woodland walks can get muddy after rain. Most pet-friendly cottages provide outdoor taps for cleaning muddy paws.
Top 3 attractions you have to see in Woodhall Spa
The Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre (LN4 4PL) is a fascinating glimpse into WWII history. Located on the former RAF Woodhall Spa airfield, it preserves the story of 617 Squadron and life during wartime. Open Sundays and Bank Holidays from March to October, 1pm-5pm. Visitors consistently praise the knowledgeable volunteers who bring the exhibits to life.
Woodhall Spa Golf Club (LN10 6PU) is home to the English Golf Union and features two championship courses. The Hotchkin Course ranks among the world's top 100 golf courses, known for its challenging bunkers and heathland setting. Visitors can book tee times in advance. One recent golfer called it "the best inland course in Britain" on TripAdvisor.
The Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (PE22 0LR) is a 30-minute drive but worth it. Home to the UK's largest collection of parrots plus tigers, lions and other exotic animals. Open daily 10am-5pm. Kids love the interactive experiences, while adults appreciate the conservation work. A visitor last month said: "The big cats were amazing - so active compared to other zoos we've visited."
Is Woodhall Spa good for families?
Absolutely! Jubilee Park has a fantastic outdoor swimming pool with a children's area. The Kinema in the Woods shows family films and has an interval with an organist. Many cottages with hot tubs have enclosed gardens where kids can play safely.
When is the best time to visit Woodhall Spa?
Summer offers the best weather for enjoying your hot tub and the outdoor pool at Jubilee Park. However, spring and autumn are quieter with lower prices. The 1940s Festival in July sees the whole town transform with period costumes, vehicles and entertainment.
Can I get around Woodhall Spa without a car?
The village centre is compact and walkable. However, to explore further afield, a car is useful. There are limited bus services to Lincoln and Boston. Some cottage owners offer bicycle hire, which is perfect for exploring the local area.
Where can I buy groceries in Woodhall Spa?
Woodhall Spa has a Budgens supermarket (LN10 6QT) in the centre of the village. For more extensive shopping, Horncastle is 7 miles away with a Tesco. Many cottages with hot tubs offer welcome hampers with local produce if requested in advance.
Are there good restaurants in Woodhall Spa?
Yes! The village punches above its weight for dining. The Teahouse in the Woods (LN10 6PU) serves excellent breakfasts and lunches. India Village (LN10 6SQ) offers great curry. The Kinema in the Woods has an old-fashioned sweet shop that's worth a visit too.
What if it rains during my hot tub cottage holiday?
Rain needn't spoil your break! The hot tub is actually lovely in light rain. Indoor attractions include the Cottage Museum, Kinema in the Woods and Tattershall Castle (20 minutes drive). Lincoln Cathedral and Castle are just 30 minutes away for a day trip.
